New entries

You may see that the blog looks slightly different. I made some adjustments to make it more clear. On your right hand side on the laptop and desktop,  you see the Sasolburg logo, on mobile devices you’ll find it on the bottom of this site, clicking on it will bring you to our Facebookpage.

There is a new story on the stories page, by Wilfred Hillary, also I added some photo’s made by Mardo’s Photos and digitalized by Cynthia Malan.

I will soon add another OIL collage, since many OIL number plates past by on the Facebookpage.

I hope you like it as it is, if anyone has any wishes, as what he or she would like to see on the blog, let me know.

Movies and stories

Just to let you know: I added another ‘page’ to this site to collect the movies. There are already a few, I hope more will come! The movies page is here

Then: Many (former) inhabitants of Sasolburg are emigrants coming from diverse countries in Europe. In fact all white/european Sasolburgers come from elsewhere.

We are going to collect the stories of those who came to Sasolburg and are still able to tell their story of the emigration. I have done that already, tell the story of our coming to South Africa and to Sasolburg. You’ll find it here, and this is where I shall publish the stories of those who will write them and send them to me to publish. It will be very interesting to read the stories.

You may use the contact form, which is also in this post. Please remember that when you send the contact form, it is sent straight to me, nobody else will read your story before I publish it. If you want to give remarks to the posts you may use the comment form which is at the end of every post and page.

It would be nice to add one or two photos to your story, so, if you have any, send them to me. In this case you can’t use the contact form but just email me the photos.

How to read this site

Weblog3

On this site you will find the various subjects under what are called ‘pages’. They are the tabs in top of this site. Click on any subject and the page will open.

The subjects are:

About this blog: Here you can read what this blog (website) is all about.

Contact form: Here you find the contact form. It allows you to contact the admin of this site. You can use it for having your name added to the maiden names list, or to have a post on the Searching for old Friends‘ page. Or anything else you wish to contact the admin about.

e-mail Address: When you put your mouse over the tab Contact Form, you will see a subtab appear: e-mail address. Here you find the admins e-mail address, in case you wish to send photo’s. Don’t use it for anything else please. For all other messages use the contact form.

Girls maiden names: This is where the girls tell what their maiden names are. There is a long list, which makes it easier if you want to find a girlfriend and only remember her maiden name. If you wish to be added to this list, use the contact form.

Meetings: Do you plan to meet some old friends you happened to meet again on Facebook in real life? This is the place to plan the place and date. And the who.

Photo’s: This is where collections of photo’s can be found. Click on Photo’s and you’ll see old photo’s of Sasolburg. So we never forget what it looked like in the old days. More photo’s are perfect, so just send them!

Sport photo’s: Underneath the photo’s tab you will see the Sport photo’s. That is; this where they will come. I will pick the photo’s from the Facebook page.

Class photo’s: Underneath the Photo’s tab you’ll also find the class photo’s. Many photo’s are posted in the Facebook page, and here I collect them and put them together – easier to be found. Do you have a photo that isn’t here yet, send it please, with all the information you have. Try to make a good photo of the photo in your album, here are some suggestions how.

Reunions: Here will come photo’s of reunions. How nice to see people becoming older, greyer, and of coarse wiser through the years! 😉 The Reunions tab is behind the class photo’s tab>.

Sasolburgers Worldwide: Do you want to know where everyone moved to when they left Sasolburg? Those who answered that question on Facebook are in the spreadsheet.

Searching for old friends: We all come to an age that we wonder how our old friends are doing. But we don’t know where they are. Here we post the names of those who are searching and being searched for. You may add a friends name that you lost sight of, use the contact form.

Stories: Except for photo’s, we all have our memories in our heads. Write them down, and we put them together here.

The outlook of this site may change a bit in the future. There are a few things I am not satisfied with like it is now. One thing is that I find the letters too small, and they are grey originally, and I have to change them to black manually. I am looking for another “theme’ to have this and some other things fixed.

Nostalgia …

The Facebook page ‘I lived in Sasolburg and survived‘ really became a hit. In a short period of time  up to more than 5000 6000 people became members. All people who have sweet memories of the time they lived in Sasolburg, or still live in Sasolburg.

Facebook is a fantastic medium, but it has some limitations. It is not possible to make subpages. That makes it difficult to find something. Everything is posted in chronological order. And when there is a new reaction to a post, it comes to the top again. So that makes it hard to find something.

So, we thought it would be a good idea to collect all the memories and the photos here, to be able to find them again. You will find several categories in the different pages, on top of this page.

If you’re searching for an old friend, let me know by filling out the contact form. I will add it in the list in the page above.

The same counts for adding your maiden name. This will make it easier for your friends to find you if you only use your married name.

This blog will be written in English and in Afrikaans.

Here’s more information about the history of Sasolburg.
